Cooperative framework for integrating vertiport operations

The need to develop the components required to enable innovative air mobility (IAM) operations to and from a vertiport, defining and evaluating a set of concepts to provide safe and secure operations in vertiports. Evaluating the impact of air traffic surrounding the vertiports on different key performance areas (KPAs), such as capacity, operational efficiency, and safety, to obtain conclusions and recommendations on the most adequate approach for each operational environment, validating the analysis and design of the vertiport operations as needed.

The overall objective of the vertiport collaborative traffic management (VCTM) is to improve the performance of the VTOL-capable aircraft (VCA) operation from the vertiport of origin to the vertiport of destination, considering it as a whole operation. It establishes a cooperative process involving all parties in the operation: vertiport manager, common information service provider (CISP), U-space service provider (USSP), and eVTOL-capable aircraft. The solution promotes the best use of available resources, reducing uncertainties during different stages of a flight by managing the distribution of data such as availability, schedules, and capacity constraints of vertiports. The development introduces the role of the vertiport manager and their associated responsibilities, highlighting their position as a key stakeholder within the operations.
