The current proliferation of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in urban areas poses a major challenge in terms of safety and privacy, especially when these devices fly over restricted areas such as military facilities, critical infrastructure, or zones restricted due to turbulence and wind. Current detection systems have mainly focused on military, airport, or law enforcement environments and tend to have very high costs, making deployment in urban environments difficult—especially for smaller cities with significant budgetary constraints. The absence of efficient and cost-effective systems for UAS detection and control in these situations can lead to safety vulnerabilities and privacy breaches.

This context has led to the development of the drone detection and communication service (DDCS), based on artificial intelligence (AI) and using sensors that are more affordable than current solutions.

The DDCS solution is a system that processes real-time data collected from different sensors to predict, with high accuracy, the presence of UAS in restricted areas. The system applies advanced AI technologies to detect drones operating outside authorised boundaries in urban environments, using more cost-efficient technology suitable for city deployment. Additionally, communication systems are implemented that interact directly with drone operators, enabling the correction of their trajectories when they deviate from the approved flight plan.

From a regulatory standpoint, this solution complies with international and European regulations governing the safe use of UAS, including guidelines regarding data protection and aviation safety such as GDPR and EASA standards.
