GARDA aims to enhance communication, navigation and surveillance technologies using dual-frequency multi-constellation global navigation satellite systems, improving resilience to jamming and spoofing and enabling the sharing of GNSS degradation information across the air traffic management ecosystem. This reduces flight crew and air traffic controller workload and maintains safe, efficient operations in all flight phases.
GARDA aims to develop a robust airborne navigation solution supporting multiple aircraft platforms for low-level operations, enhanced approaches and optimised descents, reducing fuel burn, emissions and noise. The project explores real-time GNSS degradation sharing to enable informed ATM decisions and future automation. Two SESAR solutions will be validated in four exercises across joint flight campaigns using a test aircraft and a test helicopter, supported by EASA and an advisory board.
