The project aims to address air traffic growth by shifting the air traffic control paradigm from local sector-based solutions to cross-border, flow-based approaches. These flow-centric methods are designed to overcome the scalability limits of geographical sectors and optimise traffic at a regional level. The project is developing a dynamic air traffic flow configuration method to assess, predict, manage, and optimise evolving air traffic flows, enabling more efficient flow-centric air traffic flow and capacity management  and airspace management.

Key components of the project include:
- A flow-pattern extraction module to identify and characterise major air traffic flows.
- A flow monitor module to track the evolution of flows, including density, rate, and interactions, while integrating weather and environmental impact indicators.
- A traffic flow assessment module to measure congestion and flow/capacity imbalance.
- A flow prediction module to forecast future air traffic flow features.
- A traffic flow configuration module to manage dynamic flow strategies, such as flow merge and split, and regulate flights according to flow capacity.

The integration of these modules into a flow-centric airspace management framework will pave the way for dynamic airspace management, validated through an innovative platform developed by the project.
