AnySky is an integration software-based platform designed for digital trust and security attestation for industrial-internet-of-things (IIoT). Given the limited computational capabilities of existing aircraft equipment, particularly memory and bandwidth, the key focus is on a disaggregated security architecture with independent control and data planes, including off-system generation of control and data planes.

AnySky combines existing infrastructure with an independent remote attestation software platform and processes in air traffic management (atm) and military or state aircraft operations in shared airspace, incorporating technological assets for data anonymisation and security. Deployment of AnySky depends on the specific avionics and considers both offline and online operation modes, with selective security applied based on user requirements.

Operational steps:

Step 1 – Pre-flight preparation:

  • A programming device synchronises aircraft avionics with the AnySky attestation service.

  • A table of one-time patterns (OTP) for masking is generated.

  • The OTP process includes receiving global navigation satellite system (gnss) confirmation data to verify signal correctness via gnss receivers on the aircraft and in the AnySky attestation servers.

  • The fusion process creates one-time masks (OTM) for ADS-B data garbling.

Step 2 – In-flight operation:

  • Aircraft use OTMs to secure selected sections of ADS-B data by creating garbled messages.

  • If an ADS-B receiver operated by an unauthorised party receives the messages, only garbled data is visible.

  • To access unmasked data, air navigation service (ANS), air traffic services (ATS), or atm providers query the AnySky attestation service using the ICAO 24-bit address and other selected unique flight information.

Step 3 – Simulation and dynamic operation:

  • Data and communication processes are simulated in a laboratory environment.

  • The solution includes online capability, integrating data link or mobile network connectivity to dynamically perform OTMs during defined flight segments, enhancing security.

  • Considering interdependencies between network managers and ANS/ATS/atm providers, the AnySky attestation service ensures stakeholders authenticate via an additional security layer to manage flight handover and changes in flight conditions.
