The solution optimises traffic flows based on CO2, non-CO2 and ATC capacity trade-offs, thanks to an innovative way to forecast climate-sensitive areas and to implement new climate mitigation measures in daily operations. The solution provides means to:
-
Estimate the total climate impact of a single flight path (airlines) and traffic flows (ANSPs), relying on CO2 and non-CO2 emissions. To experiment with non-CO2 monitoring technologies.
-
Detect: forecast the climate-sensitive area (ECO area) and identify flights having the major negative impact on total climate impact in a given area.
-
Mitigate:
(i) by optimising the flight plan/path, adding the non-CO2 performance indicator as a new criterion into the flight planning systems (airlines & flight planning),
(ii) by optimising traffic flows (ANSPs) via new traffic climate measures supported by enhanced collaborative decision-making between ANSPs and airlines, ensuring a balance of ATC capacity and environmental performance.
