Drones are willing to operate in controlled airspace but conflict resolution services between drones and manned aircraft during the flight will not be implemented at short notice. For this reason, a solution to safely manage such operations is needed.
SESAR proposes to design the operational procedures and collaborative interfaces to enable the dynamic segregation of drones and manned aircraft in airspaces where air traffic control (ATC) service and unmanned aerial system (UAS) operations can occur simultaneously, reducing the risk of proximity between them. The solution relies on a dynamic airspace reconfiguration (DAR) service that will help adjusting the airspace to the envisioned manned and unmanned demand.
Thanks to this service the consolidation of air traffic controllers (ATCOs) and DAR Managers functionalities and interfaces will be possible, as well as the quantification of the impact on controllers' performance will ensure the safety and efficiency of the airspace.
