The evolution of the European air traffic management ecosystem is witnessing a significant transformation, driven by increasing demands for airspace access from both civil and military users, across the full range of manned and unmanned aerial systems. This transformation shall be supported by a shift from the conventional approach to airspace segregation management to integration through safe separation of various users.
This solution implements the concepts of mission trajectory and advanced flexible use of airspace throughout a dynamic and flexible solution for airspace management in the future dynamic airspace configuration environment.
A moving and flexible airspace volume around a flying object, the so-called “protection bubble,” as it defines dynamic mobile area (DMA) of type 3, is conceptually developed for different types of military missions, having in view its applicability to other new entrants, such as higher airspace operations (HAO) and remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) operations, which are characterised either by a high level of uncertainty or are subject to enhanced tactical flexibility.
The DMA of type 3 encompasses two scenarios: the planned DMA of type 3, which embraces the planned military missions or RPAS operations, and the unplanned DMA of type 3, which covers non-ATM-friendly aircraft.
