ADS-C information provided by the equipped and logged on aircraft is displayed on IODA, which is the extended AMAN’s HMI used by the FMP controller. IODA is connected to an ADS-C common server. this should allow a better detection of the situations where a speed modification is required thanks to a more accurate awareness of the planned 4D trajectories of the aircraft. the enhanced awareness of the planned trajectories (top of descent, speed in descent, etc.) is expected to support the FMP controllers to select more optimally the aircraft to act on, and to decide how to act, considering the flight’s intentions and limitations. ADS-C data display on IODA will therefore support the application of the XMAN process, which contributes to further reduce the environmental impact by distributing part of the delay to the cruise phase and modifying the trajectories only when really required. the outcomes of a previous project, called PJ38-ADSCENSIO, showed that ADS-C had the potential to improve those tasks, but there was a need to consolidate these results by experimenting more situations involving ATS-B2 equipped aircraft. IODA is planned to move from a local to a web architecture and from a tactile head-down HMI to a more standard mouse and screen HMI.
